Caving
Caving is about exploration and adventure, entering a world that few people have ever seen before and where even fewer will ever go.

Caving is great fun and certainly does not deserve the image the sport has of crawling about in wet horrible potholes.

In fact nothing could be further from the truth, as you will see if you join us on an underground excursion.

Caving on Mallorca

The mountainous landscape of Mallorca is many tens of millions of years old.

Formed by great pressures within the earth’s crust that has over time pushed the rock up and over on itself to form the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range.

In doing so this process left many voids and cavities within the rock that have become the caves we explore today.

Mallorca has two basic types of caves, vertical shafts and horizontal ones.  It is the horizontal ones that we are interested in as they are an ideal introduction to caving.

Being horizontal means that there are some very spectacular rock formations on both floor and roof of the caves.

Rainwater seeping down through the rock above and collects minerals on the way then deposits them as it drips from the roof creating the amazing formations you can see below ground on Mallorca.

 Caving Excursions

We offer several Excursions to Caves on the island,
all with varying degrees of difficulty.

None of the caves we visit require any previous caving experience
and are normally dry but some small puddles may be encountered.

Caving Excursion - A Typical Plan

These excursions are designed to introduce people to caving in a safe and controlled manner.

An excursion may be from 4 to 8 hours depending on cave location.  Before departure we will instruct on the basics of caving, safety and conservation.

You will be supplied with helmets and safety gear, main and backup lighting systems.

You will be instructed on the application and usage of any equipment to be used.

If required you will be instructed on descending and ascending a fixed rope.

Group members will be expected to carry individual and group equipment.

IMPORTANT NOTES ON CAVING - Please Read

Clients must be aware that caving, and all mountain sports have inherent dangers for which we cannot be held responsible.

We work on a maximum group size of 4 clients per guide. Due to the fragility of the underground environment and the need for conservation, we regret that we will not under any circumstances work with larger groups, or visit the same cave on consecutive days.

We will provide all helmets, lighting and any specific safety equipment, all of which meets or exceeds current EC safety standards.

Clients must come equipped with suitable clothing and footwear. We recommend loose fitting jeans type trousers, long sleeved sweatshirt type top and lightweight walking boots with ankle support.

Caving is a potentially hazardous activity that will involve getting dirty, being in the dark in confined spaces and some crawling on natural rock surfaces. Up to an hours walk over mountainous terrain may be required to and from the cave entrance and this may require that clients be outside in adverse conditions.

Below ground there are no toilets, any waste material must not be allowed to contaminate the cave environment.

Smoking is not allowed.
