Rocksoport Mallorca - Guided Walks and Scrambles in Mallorca Spain

The island of Mallorca has an amazing variety of terrain to interest the keen walker, from cool shady forest and lowland pasture to steep rocky paths and ridges leading to rugged mountain peaks.

For the budding mountaineer the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range has some truly spectacular peaks. You will find several summits that are well in excess of 1000 meters (3250 ft) accessible to the more adventurous walker.

You can also find gorges and steep sided ravines, like the incredible Torrente de Pareis, just waiting to be explored.

Hill walking and scrambling are both fantastic ways to get out and enjoy the mountains for a day.

Scrambling differs from normal hill walking due to the steepness and rocky nature of the routes involved. This means the walker (climber?) will have to use both hands and feet to progress.

Scramble routes are graded 1, 2 & 3. Grade 1 is the easiest with short sections of very basic climbing. Grade 3 is the hardest with longer more difficult and exposed climbing that will usually require the use of a rope and basic climbing gear.

We can offer the keen mountain enthusiast an opportunity to complete some of the islands more challenging walks and scrambles.

Our Guided Scrambles Plan deals only with the more difficult “Mallorca Grade A” routes that involve sections of grade 2 scrambling or above.

All our routes have some degree of technical difficulty that will require a hands-on approach and involve some easy climbing and rope work. We suggest that you contact us for more detailed information on these excursions before making a reservation.

The Torrente de Pareis

One of the most incredible excursions on Mallorca, this walk / scramble takes you from Escorca down into the torrente (gorge) and on to the cove of Sa Calobra.

The walls of the gorge are in places only meters apart and over 200 meters high.

This excursion involves some awkward climbing over large boulders, for which some people may require a safety rope.

Pools of water, which cannot be passed without swimming, may be encountered after heavy rain.

Total time from Escorca to Sa Calobra, 6 hours, possibly longer depending on conditions, group size & ability.

The Cavall de Bernat Ridge

This classic walk / scramble follows a route along the sea cliffs overlooking the town of Puerto Pollença.

The stunning views and challenging terrain make this one of the classic excursions on Mallorca.

The Caval Bernat ridge has been favourably compared to the famous “Crib Goch” scramble on the Snowdon range in Wales.

This excursion involves sections of scrambling / easy climbing, which are quite exposed and may require the use of a safety rope.

A head for heights and a reasonable level of “hill walking” fitness are prerequisite to undertaking this excursion.

Total time Siller to Bouquer Valley gate, around 5 hours depending on conditions, group size and ability.

Mortix & Torrente del Fondo

The Mortix area is noted for its untamed, rugged beauty.

Wild rock formations, breathtaking sea cliffs and a mountain stream running through a steep sided gorge are some of the highlights of this excursion.

Also sea eagles and other birds of prey can be seen, along with the rare frogs that are only found in the more remote torrents of Mallorca.

The nature of the terrain makes this excursion a challenging day out, but one well worth the effort.

This excursion involves short sections of grade 2 scrambling over rocks and boulders and requires a reasonable level of fitness.

Total time start to finish at Mortix gates, 5 to 6 hours depending on group size and ability.

The Puig Tomir Circuit

The Puig Tomir is an impressive peak over 1000 meters (3250 ft) high, which overlooks the northeast side of the island and the Formentor peninsular.

From the summit the views of the island are incredible and well worth the effort to get there.

This excursion takes you over the top of “Tomir” via the “Pas del Diablo” then down and over the “Puig de Ca” and back through the forest at Son Marc.

This excursion has sections of UK grade 3 scramble, steep scree crossing and is quite demanding.

The route taken on this excursion may vary depending on group ability and weather conditions.

Total time from start to finish, 6 to 9 hours depending on route taken, group size and ability.

The “Puig de Seis Viñes” Ridge

An easy approach from the tunnel leads to technical scramble along the knife-edge ridge up to the summit of the Puig de Seis Viñes (1200 mts) overlooking the Gorge Blau.

This excursion is a challenging day out, but well worth the effort for the scenery and the technical difficulty of the route.

You will encounter sections of exposed grade 3 scrambling and the need to use rope and climbing gear in true alpine style.

Total time from start to finish at the Gorge Blau, 5 to 7 hours depending on group size and ability.

Puig Major, "Silla de La Reina, Via Directa"

The Piug Major is the highest peak on the island at over 1450 meters high.

The “Via Directa” route was a first ascent buy the Rocksport team in 2004 and, as far as we know, has only been climbed by ourselves.

This is a sustained grade 2 / 3 scramble with exposed sections of easy rock climbing ascending over 300 meters on the east face of the Puig.

Basic rock climbing and rope skills are employed to lead you up a steep gully to the top.

This route is, without doubt, one of the islands best scrambles and if scrambling is your game, should not be missed.

Owing to the nature of the route the maximum group size is four persons.

The excursion takes approximately 7 to 8 hours from start to finish at Cuber resevoir.

Clients must be aware that hill walking, mountaineering and scrambling, as with all mountain activities, have inherent dangers for which we cannot be held responsible.

We work on a maximum group size of 6 clients per guide.

Clients must come suitably clothed and equipped for the chosen excursion.

We will advise clients on clothing, footwear and any other equipment required beforehand.

Due to the nature of these excursions clients may find themselves outside in adverse conditions.

We reserve the right to change the route of, or cancel an excursion at short notice.
